Week One - Day Two: End of Day

It is somewhat unusual for me to have an experience that I would describe as “God speaking to me.” I know some of you have that experience often, but it has been rare for me. I don’t know if that is because I have a high standard for that kind of language or if my relationship skills are spotty or if my faith is limited ... or all of the above.

That’s just how it has been for me.

Having said that, one of the times in which I had an experience of God speaking to me, He told me that one of the keys to my spiritual development would be for me to “draw a circle around my day.” I understood exactly what He meant. He wanted me to begin and end my day with Him.

Honestly, I have not practiced that habit very often over the years. (You’d think if God told you something that you’d pretty much try to hit a 1000 with whatever He said.) But when I have practiced it, the result has been richly rewarding. This project is an attempt to build that habit consistently into my life and to pass it on to others.

So here we are finishing off today’s circle. Take a moment and think back over the morning exercise and over the text. What was your experience? Is there anything you need to take note of?

Now spend a minute turning the ancient poem found in Psalm 16:7-8 over in your mind.

(7) I will praise the LORD, who counsels me;
   even at night my heart instructs me.
(8) I have set the LORD always before me.
   Because he is at my right hand,
   I will not be shaken.
Psalm 16:7-8

  1. End your day by praying this: “Guide us waking, O Lord, and guard us sleeping; that awake we may watch with Christ, and asleep we may rest in peace.”
  2. Lights out!
