Week Two - Day Three: End of Day
Didn’t you love that quote from R. C. Sproul at 5 PM? Sorry about how long the text was, but worth it! Here it is again:
“There are modern theorists who believe that the world was created by nothing. Note the difference between saying that the world was created from nothing and saying the universe was created by nothing. In this modern view the rabbit comes out of the hat without a rabbit, a hat, or even a magician. The modern view is far more miraculous than the biblical view. It suggests that nothing created something. More than that, it holds that nothing created everything – quite a feat indeed!”
– R. C. Sproul
So, if God is the explanation for our universe, if He is the something behind the everything, then what? The authors of the Bible honestly, unanimously and I believe correctly acknowledge the obvious consequence of God’s creation of the world: the world belongs to Him! He has rights over it! His rights extend to us as well.
- Survey your day today. Was God stirring around you in some way you need to now recognize?
- Look at Psalm 24:1-6.
(1) The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it;(2) for he founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the waters.(3) Who may ascend the hill of the LORD?
Who may stand in his holy place?(4) He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not lift up his soul to an idol
or swear by what is false.(5) He will receive blessing from the LORD
and vindication from God his Savior.(6) Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek your face, O God of Jacob.- Notice that verse 1 gives the principle and verse 2 gives the reason.
- Notice in verse 3 and following the implications for worship. So who are the ones who may come and worship God? And what is the result of this kind of worshipper coming to worship?
- Let’s acknowledge that God is our creator and that He has rights over our life. Let’s ask Him to fill our minds with thoughts of Him even as we sleep. And let’s ask Him to make us people with clean hands and pure hearts!
- End your day by praying this: “Guide us waking, O Lord, and guard us sleeping; that awake we may watch with Christ, and asleep we may rest in peace.”
- Lights out!
