Week Four - Day Two: End of Day

You have, no doubt, seen people get on their knees when they pray. This is a sign of submission. If “God is only truly known in the soul as we yield ourselves to Him” then this is an appropriate practice, don’t you think? In fact, this is often seen as a symbol of our worship and our allegiance in the Bible. We are encouraged not to bow down to other influences; but instead to bow down to God in worship. Look at these two passages: one, a warning from Deuteronomy; the other, a call to worship God.

(18) But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today.

(19) If you ever forget the LORD your God and follow other gods and worship and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed. (20) Like the nations the LORD destroyed before you, so you will be destroyed for not obeying the LORD your God.

Deuteronomy 8:18-20

(5) The sea is his, for he made it,
      and his hands formed the dry land.

(6) Come, let us bow down in worship,
      let us kneel before the LORD our Maker;

(7) for he is our God
      and we are the people of his pasture,
      the flock under his care.

Psalm 95:5-7

  1. What verse from the passages strikes you tonight? Turn it over in your mind a few times.
  2. Survey your day. Was God stirring around you in ways that you now need to recognize?
  3. Try getting on our knees as you end your day by praying this: “Guide us waking, O Lord, and guard us sleeping; that awake we may watch with Christ, and asleep we may rest in peace.”
  4. Lights out!
