Week Five - Day Three: End of Day

This morning we talked about God’s self-revelation. In other words, God shows us who He is and this is the primary reason we are able to know Him.

Now, when we began the business of trying to acquaint ourselves with God, we said that we were going to look at aspects of His personality. Self-revelation is not really a personality feature. So why are we discussing it? Well, after looking at His holiness, we were forced to realize that God is so absolutely unlike us, He is … unknowable! Except that He makes Himself known. That bears repeating: if we really get our minds around God’s holiness we will give up ever trying to know Him. We will recognize that knowing Him is simply out of our reach … unless He accommodates Himself to us and shows us who He is.

This is exactly what God does. He accommodates Himself to us and He shows us who He is through creation.

  1. In Romans 1:18-20, the Apostle Paul uses God’s self-revelation as a way of shocking us out of our excuses and self justifications. Look at that section now.

    (18) The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, (19) since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. (20) For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. (Romans 1:18-20)

  2. Why do we not know the truth about God?
  3. Do you sense that to be true about you in any way?
  4. Whatever verses of Psalm 19 that you tried to commit to memory, review them now.
  5. Survey your day. Was God stirring around you in ways that you now need to recognize?
  6. End your day by praying this: “Guide us waking, O Lord, and guard us sleeping; that awake we may watch with Christ, and asleep we may rest in peace.”
  7. Lights out!

I don't understand what question #3 is asking. Is the answer to #2 holy? and then is #3 asking if I am holy in any way?

I took as the answer to #2 because God reveal it to us. Question #3 then is related to what or how God has revealed to you about Himself.
