Prayer Devotional - Friday

Devotionals

Let?s end together where we started. Let?s return to the model prayer. We?re going to use Jesus? prayer as a framework to guide our prayer time today.

PRAYER BASED ON REFLECTIONS FROM MATTHEW 6:9-13

  1. Let?s start by reading Matthew 6:9-13.
  2. 9 "This, then, is how you should pray:
    " 'Our Father in heaven,
    hallowed be your name,
    10 your kingdom come,
    your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
    12 Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.
    Matthew 6:9-13

  3. As Jesus began with praise and with concentration on God and who He is, so let?s begin today with praise. You have thought of many ways to praise God this week. Use those today as well as recognizing God?s intimate care for us (Father), His sovereignty and the fact that He created the world (in heaven), and His holiness (hallowed be your name).
  4. Now surrender yourself to God. ?Kingdom? in this case is roughly a synonym for God?s rule in your life. Give Him your life in every part. And surrender to His will!
  5. ?Give us this day our daily bread.? Use this as a time to pray for your own needs. Focus on what your concerns are for today. Notice Jesus says ?give us today.? As long-term concerns come up pray for the strength to do today what you need to do about them.
  6. What are the relational issues that still have a hold on your heart? ?Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.? Unforgiveness is an emotional cancer. This is not some hoop that God wants us to jump through. This is the way to freedom. Let?s forgive anyone we need to forgive and then pray for God to bless them.
  7. Now let?s confess our own sins and ask for forgiveness.
  8. Finally, we must remember that our lives are spiritually opposed. We have an enemy who means us harm. ?Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.? Ask God to protect you and your family from the evil one!
  9. Jot down any final thoughts. This could be positive feelings. This could be more concerns. This could be questions. It could even be some struggle you have discovered. Thank God that He is in control and that he loves you deeply and intimately.
