Sermon Passage: Proverbs 11:23-28
23 The desire of the righteous ends only in good,
but the hope of the wicked only in wrath.24 One man gives freely, yet gains even more;
another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.25 A generous man will prosper;
he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.26 People curse the man who hoards grain,
but blessing crowns him who is willing to sell.27 He who seeks good finds goodwill,
but evil comes to him who searches for it.28 Whoever trusts in his riches will fall,
but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.
Just like a rose bush must be pruned and trimmed so that it grows to its full potential, we must also allow God to prune us for us to grow fully into what God desires us to be.
Righteous
- Has craving for good.
- Gives freely, yet gains even more.
- Will prosper.
- Will be refreshed.
- Will be blessed.
- Seeks good and finds goodwill.
- Trusts in God and thrives/prospers “like a green leaf.”
Wicked
- Expect wrath.
- Withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.
- Will be cursed.
- Seeks evil and will find it.
- Trusts in his riches and still falls.
What do we hoard? Our time? Our talent and skills? Our money? Our emotions? ...
