iLove: Learning to Love Like Jesus
Sermon Notes
"The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught." Mark 6:30
"Jesus gave them this answer: ?I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does." John 5:19
When looking at the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000, we see that the disciples do not respond initially out of faith. They begin with looking at their need, they assess their resources, and then look at applying those resources through a well orchestrated plan.
As we look at Jesus' perspective, we notice several things about how Jesus operated...
Jesus is always moved by God's love
God's love is always the starting point for anything Jesus does. He looks at what is God doing here... how to act in God's love. We see Jesus' compassion in Mark 6:34.
Jesus can do this, because he is completely dependant on the Father
John 5:19, 34... Jesus says that he can do nothing on his own.
Jesus is dependant on God's timing
John 7:2-9
Jesus is able to love, because he operates from a different set of principles
His needs are met by his single-minded dependance on the Father.
