Sermon Summary

For most northern Virginians, their life governing principle (LGP) is 'leading a good life.' But, as Christians, is that what we're called to? Paul's LGP was the advancement of God's cause. His drive was that the reputation and influence of Christ would increase. This allowed him to see that God was using Paul's "suffering" to the advantage of the Kingdom.

Paul wanted the Philippians to know:

  1. God was using Paul's suffering as a way to advance the reputation and influence of Christ. (v.12)
  2. Paul's suffering was for Christ.
  3. Paul's suffering had emboldened teh Christians around him to proclaim Christ.
  4. Paul's suffering was by divine appointment.

Application Points

  1. Always and everywhere our suffering has meaning.
  2. We each need to examine our own LGP. Is the cause of Christ our LGP?
