Openly examine and confess my faults to myself, to God, and to someone I trust

Small Group Questions

This week we moved into the fourth step, which is: "Openly examine and confess my faults to myself, to God, and to someone I trust." We looked at how shame and guilt hold us back and that the only remedy is to be honest with God, others and ourselves. To hide our sins only makes them stronger, but to bring them into the light and under God control is freedom. The main scripture we looked at was 1 John 1:5-10, about walking in the light.

Secondary scriptures used were: Numbers 5:5-7, Leviticus 5:5, Proverbs 28:13, James 5:16.

Icebreaker:

When you were a kid, did you ever do anything wrong or break something and get away with it?

Questions:

  1. What does it mean to ?walk in the light as He is in the light??
  2. What does it mean to ?confess your sins to one another??
  3. What keeps people from confessing their sins and faults to one another? What would keep you from confessing your sins and faults to others?
  4. How is concealment often much more costly than confession?
  5. How does confession lead to a changed life?
  6. What value do you see in confessing, in coming clean of the wreckage of your past?

  8. Is their anything you would like to confess that we could pray for you about?
