Three-Hour Prayer Guide based on The Lord's Prayer
Getting started
“Be still and know that I am God.”
5 minutes Spend time quieting yourself. Relax. Try not to do anything. If anything comes to mind, write it on your “deal with later” sheet.
Preparation 30 minutes Spent time listening to music or to a sermon – whatever would prepare you to spend some hours in concentration with Him.
Brag about God’s character
“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be your name …”
15 minutes To be hallowed is to be set apart, to be recognized as “holy.” And “name” in the Ancient Near East represented the total character of a person. Brag about who God is. Use the names of God chart.
Agree with God’s will and purpose
“Your kingdom come your will be done on earth as in heaven …”
15 minutes God’s “kingdom” represents His power and His control over all things. Pray in agreement with His will and what He’s doing. Think about what God’s causes are and pray for them in a general way.
Pray for your needs
“Give us this day our daily bread …”
15 minutes Pray for your needs – big and small.
Confess and Release
“Forgive us our sins as we forgive …”
15 minutes Confess your sins and ask for forgiveness. Then try to realize any people with which you may hold grudges or unresolved tension and anger. Try to release that tension and anger by praying for their good.
Pray for protection
“Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil...”
15 minutes Pray for spiritual protection for yourself and for those who are within your prayer concern. Pray that you (and they) will be spiritually strong and that Satan’s interests concerning you will be thwarted.
Praise God for His actions
“Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever”
15 minutes Think about what God has done in your life and praise Him. Think about Jesus’ life and ministry and praise Him. Think about things you know that God has done in the life of others and praise Him.
Let Him examine You
“Search me, O God.” (Psalm 139:23)
30 minutes Give God freedom to speak into your heart. Ask Him what He wants to say to you. Ask Him to show you how He sees you right now and what He thinks of you right now. Listen.
Meditation
“I have hidden your word in my heart” (Psalm 119:11)
15 minutes Spend time meditating on a particular passage of Scripture.
Conclusion 10 minutes Allow some time to reflect on what has happened in the last 2 ½ hours. Sit still and ask yourself what you learned, what you have heard, what you experienced. Make note of it all.
