Nehemiah: Lessons in Leadership

The Work

• The rebuilding utilizes existing materials.
  • God starts what is already there.
• The work is dedicated to the Lord.
  • Baruch worked zealously.
  • Colossians 3:23 "Whatever you do, do it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men..."
• The gates are as important as the walls.
  • The started with the gates, which were the entry and exit points.
  • Psalm 82:7 "The Lord loves the gates of Zion..."
  • God is concerned about outsiders being able to come in and know God also.
  • John 14:6 "Jesus answered, 'I am the way...'"
  • There were a lot of gates into the city.

The People

• Everyone has a part to play.
  • 1 Corinthians 9
• Spiritual leaders set the pace.
• Some choose not to work.
• Some go above and beyond.
  • We will never be the church that God wants us to be as long as everyone settles for just doing their fair share.
• Nehemiah takes names.
