Sermon Notes
If we are going to point people toward God, we must tell them what God has done for us in Christ.
A little baseball analogy...
1. The Signal (Romans 10:1-4)
- More than zeal is required. Knowledge must be added to zeal.
The catcher is down and he gives the signal... The image of Romans is the courtroom. God is the judge and God will give you the life you choose. If you choose God, He will give you Himself. In Romans, Paul tells us why many of the Jews were not in right relationship with God. Not all spirituality is equal... Zeal is not enough.
2. The Wind-up (Romans 10:5-13)
- A relationship with God is simple.
- A relationship with God involves the whole person.
- A relationship with God is Christ centered.
- God will give us the life we choose. The consequences must be dealt with. God dealt with those consequences in Jesus Christ.
- A relationship with God is available to anyone.
3. The Delivery (Romans 10:14-15)
- We must tell others what God has done for us in Christ.
4. Why would I want to tell others what God has done?
- Jesus commands it.
- It is part of what is involved in being a follower of Jesus.
- The absence of such a desire suggests spiritual sickness.
If we are going to point people toward God, we must tell them what God has done for us in Christ.
Some additional thoughts on telling others about Christ
- You can't force people to believe
- You must tell them with sensitivity... with gentleness and respect (see 1 Peter 3:15)
- Remember what you have — great Good News!
