Sermon Notes
If you want to be effective, productive, and fruitful in the most important areas of your life, then you've got to be intimately connected to Jesus.
1. God the Father overseas our growth and fruitfulness.
John 15:1-4
- He cuts off the dead branches.
- Dead branches block the sun and often carry disease and insects.
- Pruning healthy branches allows them to bear more fruit.
- This process is already happening in our lives if we are connected to Jesus.
2. God the Son is the source of our growth and fruitfulness.
John 15:5-8
- It is dangerous to “Take a Break” from the tree.
- Remain => abide, stay... What do you remain in?
- You must spend time in God’s Word. See Ed’s new blog at edallen.wordpress.com
3. Jesus takes responsibility for our obedience and therefore for our growth and fruitfulness.
John 15:9-17
What fruit is Jesus talking about?
- The fruit that comes from telling others about Christ.
- Christian virtues (Galatians 5:22-23)
- v.12 The fruit of loving others more deeply
- v.15 The fruit of knowing God more intimately
- v.16 Jesus chose you.
- Jesus is in it with us.
This week:
- Spend time with Jesus.
- Lean away from your tendancies... and lean into Jesus.
