Scrooged (Advent 2007)
Sermon Notes
Note: due to technical difficulties, we do not have a recording of this week's sermon.
The heart expands not by taking more in but by giving more away.
So how can we be generous people?
1. We have the right DNA
- We can be generous people because we are children of a generous Father.
- 1 Timothy 6:17; John 3:16-17; James 1:17
2. We have the right status
- We can be generous people because we have been rescued by a generous Savior.
- Matthew 20:28
3. We have limitless gifts (at least the ones that really matter)
- We can be generous people because we have been given generous gifts.
- James 1:17; 2 Peter 1:3
- We have limitless resources available to us of what is important... eternal life, peace, love...
- Mark 10:17-24
Where are you on the greedy/generous scale?
3 Generosity Exercises
Note: these will be expanded later this week...
- Make 20 labels that say “God’s Stuff” and tape them on things that are most important to you.
- Consider increasing your giving by 1 or 2% this year whether that is to Gateway or to meet some other significant need. Possibly make a significant contribution to the Gateway building fund Up To Something Good.
- Interview someone you know or respect who has developed a lifestyle of generosity.
