1 Corinthians 12:12-31: one body, many parts
The church is a unified organism made up of highly diverse, indispensable parts which operate with one another and for one another.
John 17:20-25: Jesus prays for believers and for our unity.
Paul addresses two challenges to our unity:
- That we don't belong (vv.15-20)
- That we don't need the other parts (vv.21-25)
Ephesians 4:11-16 ... God gave us different parts to prepare us for works of service so "that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God."
Disciplines that help us invest in community:
- Gathering (Hebrews 10:24-25)
- Confession (James 5:16)
- Guidance (Proverbs 12:15; 13:10)
